Stanley Hooper - ChancellorThe Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce that he has appointed Mr Stanley Hooper as Diocesan Chancellor with immediate effect.

The Chancellor is a diocese’s senior legal authority and point of reference, and in Cyprus and the Gulf will stand ready to offer advice, counsel, and judgment to the bishop and the diocese in respect of diocesan affairs.

Mr Hooper, who lives in Cyprus and is undertaking the Chancellorship without remuneration, is a barrister of Gray’s Inn. His legal career includes appointments as High Court Registrar, Botswana; Diocesan Registrar of the Diocese of Botswana in the Province of Central Africa; one of Her Majesty’s Coroners in South Yorkshire; and Chair of Humberside Police Authority Standards Committee. He has also been a Lecturer at Doncaster College and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Sheffield.

The Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd Andrew Tucker, at present Priest in Charge of St Wilfrid Lower Willingdon, near Eastbourne, in the Diocese of Chichester and Province of Canterbury, as Chaplain in the Dubai with Sharjah and the Northern Emirates Chaplaincy, with particular responsibility for St Nicholas Fujairah.

Andrew, his wife Teresa and their children will move to the UAE in early January. Bishop Michael intends to license him at St Nicholas Fujairah on Saturday 19 January, 2013.

Please pray for Andrew and his family, for the people of the whole Chaplaincy, and for the team of clergy and other ministers who serve them.

The Right Reverend Kenneth Cragg

 

Bishop Kenneth Cragg: 1913-2012We mourn the death, give thanks for the life, and pray for the soul of the Rt Revd Kenneth Cragg, who has died in England at the age of 99.

One of the greatest scholars of the relationship between Christianity and Islam, and one of the greatest workers in the field of Muslim-Christian understanding, Bishop Kenneth Cragg served both in Britain and in the Middle East, notably as Assistant Bishop in Jerusalem with particular oversight of Egypt, and in many other places too.

His scholarly and popular published works span more than 55 years and draw deeply on lived pastoral and human encounter. He was the most gracious and shrewd of Christians.

May he rise in glory.

The Reverend Dr Paul Burt

The Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce the appointment by Mission to Seafarers of the Reverend Dr Paul Burt, currently Senior Chaplain, Winchester College, in the Diocese of Winchester and Province of Canterbury, to be Senior Chaplain, Mission to Seafarers, Dubai.

Dr Burt served in the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf earlier in his ministry from 1988 to 1990 as CMS Chaplain, Bahrain.

Please pray for Paul as he prepares to be licensed to his new ministry in September.

The Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Timothy Heaney, at present priest in charge of St Pol de Lion, Paul, Diocese of Truro, in the Province of Canterbury, to be Associate Chaplain, Holy Trinity Dubai, and associate chaplain in the chaplaincy of Dubai and Sharjah with the Northern Emirates.

He will be licensed at Holy Trinity, Dubai on Friday 1st June, 2012.

Please remember Tim and his wife Diane in your prayers, together with the clergy and people of Holy Trinity and all other congregations within the chaplaincy.
