Two new Honorary Canons for St Christopher’s Cathedral, Bahrain

The Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce the appointment of a new lay canon and a new clerical canon of St Christopher’s Cathedral, Manama,Bahrain.

Mr John BanfieldMr John Banfield is a co-opted member of Diocesan Synod’s Standing and Finance Committee, which is also the Bishop’s Council. For some time now he has had special responsibilities in the oversight and planning of the diocese’s finances. He also supervises the coordination of its representation in the United Kingdom. Through his life in business John has had a long residential and travelling association with the region and the diocese, both Cyprus and the Gulf. He has been particularly instrumental in maintaining and developing the diocese’s major mission and service project of Christ Church and its clinics in Aden, where he is a member of the Council of Reference.

Revd Andy ThompsonThe Revd Andrew Thompson MBE is Chaplain of St Andrew Abu Dhabi and Diocesan Director of Ordinands, as well as Vocations Training and Ordination Officer for the Gulf Archdeaconry specifically. Until his appointment to Abu Dhabi he served as Chaplain of St Paul Kuwait, and both before and since ordination has lived and worked in a variety of Middle Eastern locations including the United Arab Emirates.

The Reverend Simon Holloway

The Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd Simon Holloway, at present Vicar in the Horley Team Ministry in the Diocese of Southwark and Province of Canterbury, to be Chaplain of South East Cyprus.

He has been in his current post since 2002 and previously served in the Dioceses of Lichfield and Birmingham.

His new ministry in the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf starts in early October.

Please pray for Simon and for Pauline his wife and their family. Pray too for the people of the chaplaincy of South East Cyprus.

The Reverend Dr Lawrence Hilditch

Reverend Dr Lawrence HilditchThe Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf, the Rt Revd Michael Lewis, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd Dr Lawrence Hilditch, at present non-stipendiary assistant curate at St Paul’s Cathedral Nicosia, Cyprus, and a senior member of teaching staff at the American Academy, Larnaca, to be Head of Secondary at the Anglican International School Jerusalem (AISJ) in the Diocese of Jerusalem.

He will continue to serve at St Paul’s Cathedral until he moves to Jerusalem prior to starting his new work and ministry in early September.

Please pray for him and for Rhoda his wife and their son Philip, as well as for the community of AISJ, the Diocese of Jerusalem and Suheil its bishop, and the Dean and congregation of St Paul’s Cathedral, Nicosia.

The Reverend Stephen Miller

The Reverend Stephen Miller, currently serving as Mission to Seafarers Senior Chaplain, Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, has been appointed Mission to Seafarers Chaplain, Hong Kong.

Fr Stephen has been in his present post since 2002. He was previously Mission to Seafarers Chaplain in Rotterdam after a curacy and an incumbency in the Diocese of Worcester in the Church of England. While in Dubai he conceived the project that eventually launched the MV Flying Angel, the first seafarers’ support boat of its kind in the world.

He has been a key member of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf’s Standing and Finance Committee, which is also the Bishop’s Council.

We congratulate him on his major new appointment, which he expects to take up after Easter.
