A Ramadan Evening – St George’s, Baghdad

St George’s Church in Baghdad, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, held a Ramadan evening in the church gardens under the patronage of Fr Faiz Jerjes, the parish priest, on Wednesday 13 June.
Special guests included the General Director of the Heritage Department of the Ministry of Culture, Khalid Alani; the Conductor of the Iraqi Symphony Orchestra, Karim Wasfi;  and a large audience of prominent Christian and Muslim intellectuals.
The event included traditional activities, hymns, presentations on the future of Iraq after ISIS and against hate speech, and talks about Baghdad’s past and about how the city’s neighbouring families of Christians, Muslims and Jews had lived with each other in love and cooperation.
The purpose of the evening was to emphasise peaceful coexistence between the various faiths and to reject hatred and violence.
