Horn of Africa: new appointments in our sister diocese

Announcement of Two Appointments for the Horn of Africa

Our Dear Friends,

It is a great joy to announce the appointments of the Rt. Rev. Kuan Kim Seng as an Area Bishop for the Horn of Africa (interim) and Rev. Rajan Vincent Jacob as an Archdeacon of Gambela, within the Horn of Africa Episcopal Area. Please pray for them, that the Lord may use them for the expansion of his Kingdom in this important region.

Yours in Christ,

Bishop Kuan Kim Seng, Commissary Bishop for The Horn of Africa Episcopal Area

Bishop Kuan Kim Seng is the recently retired Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Singapore.  His previous ecclesial responsibilities included an extended period of service as the Dean of St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Singapore. He was also the Diocesan Director of Missions. When asked to share something about his personal life, he said that he is eternally grateful to God for the fact that a classmate brought him to an after-school Christian meeting when he was 16. That was when he surrendered his life to Jesus the Messiah. He said that God has blessed him beyond what he could ask or think, not least in the blessed gift of a wonderful wife, Ai Mai, and four boisterous grandsons!

When I invited him to be the Area Bishop of the Horn of Africa, he said he would prefer to be called a “Commissary Bishop” because he wants to work on my behalf and fulfill the vision of the Diocese. I have known Bishop Kuan since 2005. He is a man of God, who is humble, and with a clear vision. The Gospel mission is deeply-seated in his heart. I am very grateful that he accepted my invitation.

Reverend Rajan Vincent Jacob, Archdeacon of Gambela Region

Vincent Jacob Rajan is an Indian, 46 years old, and holds degrees from Tamilnadu Theological Seminary of South India, including a Bachelor of Divinity and Masters of Theology in New Testament. Later he earned a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Religion as well.  He has studied M. Phil., Christian Studies at the University of Madras. After teaching at the Hindustan Bible Institute & College in 2003, he joined the faculty of Gurukul Lutheran Theological Seminary and Research Institute in 2007 and served as an Assistant Professor for six years. Rev. Rajan has been in the ministry for more than 20 years. Prior to his teaching experience in the seminaries affiliated to the Senate of Serampore University, he served as an Assistant Priest at the St. Georges Church (CSI), Diocese of Madurai and Ramnad. He is currently the Priest in Charge of Christ the King Anglican Church, Diocese of Egypt with North Africa, Tripoli, Libya. Rev. Rajan has been married to his loving wife Dr. Ruby Ebenezar for 18 years. Dr. Ruby is working as Professor of English in the Govt. Arts & Science college at Tamilnadu, South India. They have two children – Rowena and Ronan. Rowena is earning her Doctor of Medicine at Columbus University, Central America; and Ronan is in High school.

Rev. Rajan joined the Diocese three years ago. He had a great sense of calling to work in the most troubled country within the Diocese: Libya. He was kidnapped, robbed, and exposed to many hardships during these years. And yet, he served with joy. He visited Gambela with me and we were encouraged to know that there are a number of Indian professors at the Gambela University!
